Imagine that in the year 2000, every country in the world had an annual murder rate of 100 for every 100,000 people. And, this being bad, every country tried their best to improve things. Come 2020 and the rates varied from 50 to 5, with every country making great improvements. The country on 50 however is demonised as being the worst. Doesn’t matter if they got it down to 1, if they were still the worst, they were the worst.

When we lack absolute scores for what is good or bad, acceptable or not, then we easily fall into the trap of demonising the worst.

Weirdly, the US has an obsession with race. Cops calling in something will say gender, age, weight and race. The US has a lot of race based statistics…

If we look at homicide rates by race and gender, blacks are clearly the worst offenders.

So it is easy for a white person to say there is something wrong with Hispanics, Indians and Blacks, because they murder so much more.

Yet American Asians are only half as murderous as whites!

One group is always the best and one group is always the worst.

Unless we define what is acceptable, then demonisation will occur. If there was only 10 murders per century, and 3 were committed by Blacks, is that a problem? If not, where is the line?

We do still need it though. The causes of worse outcomes for people of certain races are multitude, and working out how they all add up is as complicated as weather forecasting. But as long as those outcomes are worse, then we only have two ways fix it. Give them some advantages, or determine that it is their own fault (for example, they are naturally or culturally lazy). Those are the binary views in the US.

Maybe there is a third way, by side-stepping what is legally discriminatory?

Here are some examples of what are not illegal in terms of discrimination:

• Scholarships provided by individuals, to individuals
• Scholarships which do not state criteria
• Cultural – we prefer someone who understands the culture of the business, for example restaurants
• Anything based on poverty, or homed status
• Sporting ability
• Any disability

Looking for examples of MAGA discrimination? Well, of course, Trump demands loyalty to him, specifically. No law against it (well, not tested yet).

Black Rifle Coffee – only hires veterans.
Year Up – only trains people without college degrees.

The answer is obvious – find aspects of those you want to hire that are outside of discrimination laws. For example (this is a terrible example), have a work place that has a rap culture and only hire people with a demonstrable knowledge and love of rap music.

Usually in response to employment needs, refugee situations, or a general more-people-equals-more-GDP policy, migration policy is very simplistic. Numerous different programs, each with its own criteria, and an overarching system for checking if people are bad.

I am willing to suggest that migration policies should be more nuanced and consider other criteria.

Let’s reverse engineer this by looking at which aspects of migration bother the existing populace the most:

Migrant Crime – In Australia right now there is a lot of media focus on crime committed by Somalian youths, especially attacking each other with machetes. While unemployment and other non-migration factors could be part of the problem, the use of machetes is clearly cultural, and maybe the crime is as well. If you look at what crime is like in their homeland, there is clearly a cultural aspect that will remain while they are first generation migrants. A summary says:

Crime in Somalia remains extremely high and multifaceted, driven by armed groups, weak governance, and instability. Violent incidents like murders, robberies, kidnappings, and terrorism dominate, particularly in areas controlled by al-Shabaab

On the flipside, migrants from low-crime lands like Japan are presumably committing far fewer crimes, and especially fewer violent crimes. So one number that contributes to the “should they be allowed in” points system is what crime is like where they come from, using regional data or city data if possible.

Incompatibility with Western Culture – In Australia, those who assimilate easiest are those with the most similar cultures, like NZ, UK, US and Canada. Next easiest are countries that have a predominantly Christian or non-religious culture. And next easiest is where religion is limited to church-going and not deeply ingrained in society, where rejecting the religion means ostracism from the family. Or where genital mutilation, arranged marriages, or child brides are a facet.

So points should be given for cultural similarity, religious similarity (or no religion) and the depth of religion.

Language – Obviously, a migrant will fit in quicker and easier if they know the language, and will grow into their new culture more easily if they understand signage and TV and conversations with locals more easily.

Employment – I would keep this outside of the matrix, along with personal wealth. They should be separate considerations. The matrix should totally revolve around the ability and potential to fit in culturally.

Refugees versus Migrants – I don’t believe that refugees and migrants should be treated the same. Refugees should be chosen based on the extraordinary nature of their situation, combined with the above factors. And their path to citizenship should not be as easy, given that they will be less compatible. Considering that we would hope that their homeland becomes somewhere they can return to one day, then for me one generation, 10-20 years, is how long they should be non-citizens. And in that time, if they return “home”, their refugee status is revoked. Furthermore, if their “home” becomes an okay place to live once more, they will be returned, along with perhaps some funds to help.

What we get instead is very mixed messages, with the killers not especially ideological. We get a man with a trans lover writing “you are gay if you read this” on the bullet casing. Trump’s attempted assassin was in a Republican household, and gave a whopping $15 to some Democratic cause. Someone who attacks a Mormon church has a pro-Trump sign on their fence.

America is, I think, unique, in that we know which political party people are registered with, as public record. Everywhere else tries their best to keep who you vote for secret. I cannot see how such public knowledge is in the public good. As in, I could easily be fooling people with my registration, and still vote for the other side in a federal election.

The real reason, it would seem, is money. Third parties seeking political donations want contact details so they can beg for money. Which means making it public. Quite sickening, really. The extra reason is primaries. In countries like Australia, the local party body chooses who runs for office, rarely with the input of all party members. We can change parties if we don’t like who they pick. Meanwhile the US is obsessed with elections, from high school, to sheriffs, to DAs… It is everywhere, all the time.

With someone sowing so much hate and division as Trump, we need to reduce the ammo. No more public records of political affiliation.

And, we need to start a new trend. 50 years ago we called such killers psychos, nutjobs, unhinged and so on. They still are. Let’s call them anything other than left or right, because their political ideology is nothing more than a lens, at best, to focus their madness through. And not the cause.

Most people seem to divide the world in a binary way – those who look normal and those who look weird/different.

With time – by which I mean progress – what is acceptable in the normal range is broadening.

Not 100 years ago men were expected to wear suits, a tie, a hat and have short hair.
Now, we have casual attire in offices, men with blue hair, and face tattoos, all accepted by a good portion of society, and (mostly) no longer going to get in the way of employment.
The envelope of self expression keeps widening.

The most common argument about trans people is that they were born one gender and that is fixed. Which is true genetically, but they aren’t disputing that, they simply want to present themselves how they wish.

A trans woman is a man who identifies as a woman, and puts their bodies through extremes to try and perfect the appearance. How that fits into society (yawn, bathrooms), is for us to work out, not them.

Women dye their hair, falsies, high heels, botox, lip filler, makeup… that isn’t their natural self. That is how they present themselves.
Men get ripped at the gym.
People wear ears and call themselves furries.
Beatles and Stones had long hair.
Some people cut their tongue in half.
Tattoos were once just for sailors and now for young folk they are the norm.
Sex Pistols wore torn clothing.
Elon Musk walks around with a chainsaw.
Some massively obese women have “feeders”.
Donald Trump dyes his face orange.

These are all the same type of thing. Some we are used to, some we are not, and all are valid. With time they all become okay to most people, although the elderly will still mutter “never in my day”. Acceptance is a high form of love.

RFKjr has reinvigorated the vaccine causing autism lie. It is easily dismissed, via numerous studies, retractions of studies he highlights, and the very clear and obvious increase in what qualifies as a diagnosis.

If Kennedy wanted to go purely down the correlation is causation path, even that fails. The uptick in autism diagnosis massively outnumbers any increase in vaccine application. In fact vaccines are probably down since COVID yet autism keeps rising.

Yet, the more I look into to, the more I want to applaud his placing importance on the rise of autism and a search for answers. If the experts can look beyond vaccines, they might actually come up with a cause.

My parents are autistic, my brother is, my niece is, some of my children are, my best friend is, I hang out with a lot autistic people. We are all fine, non-obvious, “functioning” people.
I have never known a non-verbal, rocking in the corner, drooling autistic person, but they make up 25% of those diagnosed which is a significant number of people, and a growing number. We don’t see them because they are not a part of society. Increased or improved diagnosis does not account for their numbers. They have always clearly had something wrong with them.

The mystery is why the numbers are increasing. It isn’t vaccines, or anything else environmental, that we know of. It is massively genetic, and that could be the simple answer  – more people are inheriting it, especially if autistic people match up romantically. Even so, the increase is still too much, so I would suggest (easy to to do when you are the savant type) that nature is selecting autism. That this is a type of evolution. Unfortunately this will not be provable, but perhaps could be offered up by experts as an explanation where no others exist.

In summary – it is easy to dismiss Kennedy, who is a dangerous fear-mongering dickhead, and think that the vaccine argument being wrong is the end of the story. It is not, autism is on the rise, and a lot of people (and their families) are suffering.

For the most part it was positive. For the most part, standards were not diminished, because for the most part their is a standard that must be achieved or demonstrated, and no actual need to hire the best of the best.

However, as with most of woke (see crime in California, and transgender children), it went too far and so there has been a massive backlash, led by Trump.

That does not mean the end to DEI, it simply means that we (I’m a lefty) need to get smarter.

I recently went to a Lebanese Charcoal Chicken restaurant and all the staff were (to my eyes) Lebanese. Hooters in the US has specific requirements. These are allowed! The Lebanese restaurant – part of a chain – says it is Lebanese and therefore they can simply ask prospective staff if they have a knowledge and understanding of Lebanese culture. That is not racist, that is culturist, and not illegal. A movie studio will only hire a giant to play a giant…

Want to smoke in a restaurant, form a private club just for smokers.

Want to exclude transvestites from a women-only gym? Have a vagina-requirement.

Now with DEI 2.0, you just need to change the language, not the outcomes.

• Make use of individual scholarship funds not controlled by the school
• Talk about culture, not race (race is probably harder to define/prove anyway)
• Talk about alternative cultures and not gender identity
• Treat neurodiverse people as being more skilled at types of tasks
• Treat age as experience
• Have pathways through clubs or organizations that typically have the diversity you seek, making it indirect

That Trump did the crime is not in doubt. The jury, all vetted by the defence, were unanimous. One juror said their only source of news was Truth Social, so that is meaningful. Few, if any, conservatives are saying that Trump did not do the crime. Few, if any, are suggesting that the encounter with Stormy Daniels didn’t happen, even though it is a he said, she said situation. That is because it is so befitting the character of Trump.

What is at issue, the division is around whether this should have gone to court at all.

Republicans – it was a witch-hunt, the crime was trivial, the judge and prosecutors were motivated by politics, and Biden was ultimately behind it all.
Democrats – nobody is above the law, the crime was not trivial, it was an attempt to illegally affect the election

Guess what? Both sides are totally correct, except for Biden being involved.

Trump has been a shady, shifty character his entire life, and once he became president in 2016, he was on the radar of many prosecutors. Republican prosecutors of course were no interesting in pursuing anything, which means the remainder are Democrats. Democrats who found him so detestable, and such a compulsive liar, that they wanted to take him down. The problem of course is having politics in the US legal system – other countries avoid such craziness.

Trump is clearly guilty in all the cases he is facing. The lesson here is that if you want to be a politician, and stay out of legal trouble, don’t let your crimes be so blatant and public. For example, we literally saw the case of the boxes in Mar-A-Lago, Florida, unfold in the media, and he is clearly guilty. He said the boxes weren’t there, but they were. There is a phone call where he asks for more votes… The plot to overturn the election.

A Republican politician, Senator Tuberville, was consequently interviewed where he said he supported the ruling because we need more children, which of course makes no sense. Trump and other leading Republicans then said they support IVF.

So which is it?

Conservatives have got themselves in a pickle because they are trying to find a binary answer to a complicated question. They have tried saying that life begins at conception, but now that does or doesn’t apply to frozen embryos, like a Schrödinger’s Cat policy. In different states, and according to different politicians, abortion is okay as long as it is early enough – yet that number of weeks varies greatly, meanwhile life begins at conception.

Tuberville actually got it right, if he only he (and other such politicians) had the decency to tell us that this was all about religion, and they want their followers to have as many children as possible, and so the binary solution is to never kill an embryo. Which would be admitting that, just like the Catholic Church forbidding abortion (and contraception), this is just a numbers game and not about the souls of unborn children at all.

Choices in fertility and pregnancy are too complicated for binary laws. The only fair and decent solution is individual choice, not enforcing a religious numbers game onto non-believers and non-adherents.
